The Gothic Blog in 2011

So! The Gothic Blog is now about a year old and it’s been pseudo-dormant for much of that time. What’s been the problem? I can think of three, and of course, I’m ultimately responsible for all of them.

#1. I haven’t been updating often enough.
#2. The blog hasn’t been circulating; it hasn’t been reaching a large audience.
#3. The topicality is narrow.

There are a number of solutions I’m looking into, and it’ll take a couple months to explore them all. One of them is obvious… I need to add more writers.

Add more writers: The premise of this blog is that for 250 years “the Gothic” has been a coherent thing and that it is relevant today. So there’s a lot of stuff to write about: literature, music, film, fashion, politics, culture, video games. And I don’t know enough about most of these subjects to adequately cover them myself (I have a definite edge in literature). If you know anyone whose specific interest in the Gothic intersects with an area of specialized knowledge, please let me know, or have them contact me.

Also on the table:

What suggestions would you make?

  • What should this blog be talking about that it is not?
  • What features (a podcast, surveys, contest, etc.) would make the blog more interesting and appealing to you? (Keep in mind that I’ll need to consider my resources of time/energy/money before committing to something)
  • Anything else?

I’ve kept this post loose and free-form, because I’m hoping for some juicy-useful comments. Let me know what you think!
