Good-for-Nothing Writers Blogs? (On Blogging: 2 of 3)

Posted by connor on March 4, 2011

Earlier this week I wrote a piece in response to an article in the New York Times responding to the migration of the young from blogs to other social media.  The article is a worthwhile read:  Blogs Wane as the Young Drift to Sites Like Twitter. My response is that blogs have advantages that other forms of social media do not, and that they shouldn’t be discounted as a powerful tool. But I didn’t get into a discussion of the specific advantages blogs can offer writers.  That’s today’s topic.

The Self-Publishing Revolution!

Posted by connor on January 1, 2011

Fifteen years ago, self-publishing was a course of action reserved for three categories of writers: the wealthy, the indulgent, and the desperate.

How much has changed in ten years!

The Plan of Attack: Stalk, Lure, Strike!

Posted by connor on May 20, 2010

I used to work as an editor at an encyclopedia company, and one of the most interesting things I learned about were deep-sea fish.  Most of them have an evil and malicious appearance… they look like they would devour frequently, like a tiger, or a velociraptor.  Most deep sea creatures, however, have a slow metabolism, feeding off drifting carrion between fasts that can last weeks or months at a time.  As a result, they can live for decades.

CONCEPT: I’m back.

Posted by connor on September 29, 2009

I was a good, consistent blogger from 2002 to 2007. But ever since I moved back to Chicago, I’ve been more unreliable about it. I’m hoping to return to the blog soon, and I will shortly be making changes to the appearance and content. In addition to more frequent updates, the blog will be:

- More professionally oriented.
- More streamlined.
- More navigable and straightforward.

That said, I’m going to continue the admixture of the political and the artistic, the esoteric and the routine, that has made this fun to work on for the last seven years. I hope you’ll be a frequent guest, and if you have any suggestions for the update (which should start to nose its way in later this week), please let me know.

Concept: I Am Back

Posted by connor on June 15, 2009

Malware removed.

Now I have a long process of repairing the website, although the blog appears to be minimally impacted.

For the last month, I posted a blog in exile here: http://blueskiesfalling.wordpress.com/.

Posts there included Martuz!, No Exit, Event: The Marketplace of Ideas.

I’ll post more tomorrow about what I’ve been up to for the last odd month.

It has been a very odd month.
