– THE SHORT VERSION – Since the long version is so long forthcoming.
After scavhunt finished, Jess and I flew back to New York City. I went to work on Tuesday and the very next day I interviewed for the TA position at New School.

For as much as Billy Corgan has played up the influences of other musicians from Ozzy Osbourne to Stevie Nicks, until I really sat down with Jimi Hendrix I didn’t realize to what extent the Pumpkins borrowed from his playbook.

The definition and situation of “postmodernism” has been an indirect question for me ever since I began artistic pursuits and more directly since college (1997). Now, with our present work on Gothic Funk being formally explained as measured against and responding to the “postmodern project” many of us should develop a more rigorous, critical understanding of this movement.

– LAST WEEK AND THE WEEKEND – This was a tough one too, and it’s going to be impossible to address it just yet. I’ll finish reporting on Scavhunt and then catch up on this stuff.

– WEATHER – Weird start to the week.

– WEATHER – Cold air moving in from the Pacific will displace the high pressure front and record highs over the Northwest. Meanwhile, the opposite will occur over Florida and the Deep South, as a high pressure front rotates in from the east.

We arrived at Ida Noyes and quickly located the other judges in the process of setting up in the West Lounge.

Got up. Walked to Hyde Park Blvd. Caught the #6 to Wacker and walked up to NMFF. I was nervous going into this building. It’s always strange, the places and unseen people who catch you offguard and tie your gut into unexpected knots.

Not quite as much to say about this day. Jess and I slept in somewhat at Sams, then returned to Hyde Park via the Chicago bus. We stopped at “Steve’s Place” downtown for lunch. It was one of those half-sized shack greasy spoons, and while waiting in line I saw one of the most unusual Latin (?)

Some two minutes after the loopy conclusion to The O.C.¹, I’m treated to and elated by a preview for… bum bum bum! … the remake of The Omen starring Julia Stiles. That’s right; she’s hanging from her fingernails from a height of what looks like about twelve feet.
